Just Returned from Nicaragua
Here's a quick update from Sheep Dreamzzz Baby Blankets, our 501(c) (3) non-profit project offering baby blankets knitted by women we trained in Nicaragua. Their work provides income that allows them to feed their families in Latin America's toughest economy. We're down to seven knitters now, but they are awesome and keep turning out beautiful blankets (one a week).

100% Organic Cotton Blankets - coral and yellow are back again, and we still have gray, cadet blue, and aqua. Baby blue and Platano (green) are being knitted now.

Super-Fluffy Blankets - we got the idea to try making some blankets from our fluffy sheep yarn. It was challenging at first but Shary, Diana, and Brenda nailed it. Based on feedback so far, we've prioritized these blankets and will have a lot more of these in the future. Both pink ones sold before we could even list them, but we still have 3 blue ones.

60% Cotton Lightweight Blankets - we found some more of this yarn that we used a few years ago to knit really crisp, lightweight navy blue and teal blankets, so we have 4 of the navy ones and just one teal. Diana knitted them and she always does a great job.

|
Black Blankets - Yes, it seemed odd to us as well, but someone really wanted one and it's so much cheaper to buy a 10-ball bag (below wholesale) than to buy 2-3 balls from a shop, so we had enough for Shary to knit up 3 more blankets.

|
Texas Longhorns - This is the natural use for this rust-colored and long-discontinued yarn that we've had for years, and this is the last of it. Previous blankets have all sold, so Hook 'em Horns with these last two.

Add-Ons - when you choose a blanket, lovey, or set, you will find additional items that can be added. The super-soft rattle below just came in. We still have 3 pairs of the booties but they are going fast since we seem to be the only people who still have some (including Carters, who makes them).

$5 Donations - we pay the women when they finish a blanket, but to enable lower prices for retailers the weekly pay is based on a supportable wholesale price. Then each month we add up everything sold on our site, in person, etc. (not wholesale) and calculate how much more we can pay and divide it up among the women.

|
When checking out on our site we present the option to give a $5 donation which is added to that monthly pot which is shared by our knitters (plus Maria, who manages the knitting operation in Nicaragua). Quite a few buyers make the donation; some give double or more. We just wanted you to know what that is about!
